Saturday's closed-door meeting between Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and retired President Daniel Moi would likely elicit yet another sharp political debate in the country.
While Joho insists that the meeting was part of 'Building Bridges Initiative', the recent political alliances and meetings could after all eclipse the outcome.
"In the spirit of Building bridges and fostering unity, I was today honored to sit down with former President Daniel T. Moi at his home in Kabarak. I was fortunate to hear his wisdom on some national issues and thanked him for his time at the helm of this country.
"But through the grace of God and wisdom of HE. Raila Odinga and HE. Uhuru Kenyatta, we now have a unique opportunity to change the future of this country," read Joho's statement.
But a source close to the ODM deputy leader said the meeting was just a 'beginning of joint activities between ODM and KANU' in the Rift Valley region.
According to him, Raila and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi are navigating around a possibility of forming political alliances.
"This was just the beginning of joint activities between Kanu and ODM. The two parties would eventually work together in future elections," said the source.
Joho would be chief guest in Maralal for contributions towards building of a mosque.
On Sunday, he will be in Baringo for yet another fundraiser as he sends partnership signals with the independence party.
At the meeting, the source added,Senator Moi formally introduced Joho and a number of political issues were raised.
"They discussed how to support the Bulding Bridges initiative besides agreeing to unite people across the country through rallies."
Both president Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga have previously held meetings with senior Moi.
Interestingly, Deputy President William Ruto had his efforts to meet Moi backfire few months ago.
While Joho and younger Moi have both declared interest in Presidency, Ruto is also keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
