Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has come under fire after suggesting that graft charges facing celebrated former Kenyan athlete Kiphoge Keino should be dropped.
Kositany said Keino is a legend hence should be pardoned.
The sentiments have however not gone down well with some leaders in the North Rift region who have faulted the MP.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Executive Committee Member (NEC) Kipkorir Menjo says Kipchoge Keino should face the full force of the law.
"Kipchoge Keino is our legend, but allow him to go through the court process to clear his name and if he is not guilty of any wrongdoing he will be set free," said Menjo in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
"MPs who don't believe in the rule of law despite being lawmakers should not promote impunity since this is a bad example to the law-abiding Kenyans," he added.
The office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) recently approved prosecution of Kipchoge Keino, former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario, his then Principal Secretary Richard Ekai among others accused of misappropriating Sh55 million during the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Keino was then the National Olympic Committee chairman.
