Despite earlier indications that he was to join Don Bosco Gichana for homecoming this Friday, ODM leader Raila Odinga would after all not feature.
Hours after being confirmed the High Representative for Infrastructural Development in the AU, Raila jetted to the US for a week long tour.
"He left for the US where he will attend a lecture at Duke University in North Carolina. He will be away for a week," his spokesman Dennis Onyango said.
Don Bosco was released from a Tanzania prison after five years in custody over money laundering and fraud allegations. He pleaded guilty and was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison on top of Sh15 million fine.
And with Raila having facilitates his return, Mr. Bosco had written to him to attend homecoming, an occasion Raila was to use to showcase his influence in Gusii politics.
"It is a must attend. He even paid Sh3 million of the Sh3.7 that the family was looking for to top up. They are friends and he loves Gusii people," said an aide.
The homecoming had put Raila and Ruto supporters in cross roads since the two were scheduled to attend.
Mr. Gichana however met only Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka since his release and has vowed to mobilise over 1 million people across Nyamira and Kisii Counties to attend his event.
