Wambua said some Kamba politicians use Kalonzo's name for political mileage.

The Wiper senator hit out at governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and their Machakos counterpart Alfred Mutua, accusing them of maligning Kalonzo's name.

Wambua accused the trio of speaking ill against Kalonzo.

He said the governors have failed their people and are now blaming Kalonzo for their failures.

"We want to make it clear that as Wiper party,  we will not allow anyone to use Kalonzo's name for his or her political fame," Wambua said.

Wambua addressed the press in Kitui town on Saturday.

He said the continued attacks on Kalonzo by his rivals is calculated at tainting his 2022 presidential bid.

Wambua accused the governors of working with external forces to taint Kalonzo's name.

He said Kalonzo is the only Ukambani presidential candidate in 2022.

"We as Kamba leaders only recognize Kalonzo as the ordained presidential candidate in 2022," he said.

Wambua asked the Kamba community to support Kalonzo's candidature.

He said the former Vice President's experience will see him win the presidency in the next polls.

Last week during a joint rally in Masinga, governors Kibwana, Ngilu and Mutua vowed to unite the Kamba community and chart a new political direction for the region ahead of the 2022 polls.

A section of Kamba politicians is now piling pressure on Kibwana to resign from the Wiper party chairman's seat.

Political analyst Peter Ngure said the governors' unity is a blow to Kalonzo.

The Kiambu county based analyst observes that Kalonzo is facing a rebellion in Ukambani that could deny him an opportunity to be president in 2022.
