Police in Kisumu are investigating an incident in which a woman is accused of burning her child over theft.
Lucy Ochieng' is accused of burning her seven-year-old daughter in Ombeyi, Muhoroni Constituency after she stole Sh1000.
Ochieng claimed that the minor stole the money from her grandmother.
The incident occurred on Friday night when the girl's father, who is a security guard was away on duty.
Confirming the incident, Ombeyi Ward Chief Alloyce Olang' said that the woman allegedly bought paraffin and poured it on the girl before setting her ablaze.
However, the girl survived the attack and was taken to Obumba Dispensary for treatment.
The chief condemned the woman for her actions, adding that he will see to it that she faces the full wrath of the law.
The victim is a class one pupil in one of the schools in the area.
The accused is being held at the Ombeyi Police Post pending arraignment in court, reports the Citizen Digital.
