A section of more than 42 Nakuru street children who were rounded up and dumped at a forest in Baringo County have called on the County Assembly Committee probing the matter to ensure justice is served and those behind the inhumane act are punished as per the law.
The children who said they suffered under the cruel Nakuru County law enforcers during the roundup now want the Erick Gichuki-led county assembly committee probing the matter to ensure that the culprits behind the act face the law.
They were responding to a question raised by former Naivasha East MCA Stanley Karanja who is also a member of the committee who wanted to know what the children want the county government to do for them.
“We just want justice. Let those who did this to us face the law” said the street children.
On his part, John Mututho who on humanitarian grounds enrolled the children at his rehab at Pipeline informed the committee that the county government had not taken any measure to visit them at the facility and see how the children were fairing on.
Mututho however, commended the Senators and a section of MCAS and MPs from Nakuru who had paid a courtesy call at the facility to check on the street children who were rescued.
Addressing media after presenting his side of the story to the committee, Mututho said he is optimistic that the MCAs will come up with a report based on their findings and the facts tabled.
“Clearly, I cannot pre-empt what the MCAs have found. These are our heroes. The MCAs who have come to investigate and find the route course of the matter. I would challenge the DCI and other government agencies that let us think about the welfare of these children” said Mututho.
The Chair, however, called on members of the public in Nakuru County to give the committee time before they can come up with a conclusive report that will see justice served.
“I want to state here categorically that this incident actually took place. But the worry is that there has not been any measure to avert reoccurrence. But as a community, we shall come up with a report based on our findings and ensure justice for the children” said the chair.
Similar sentiments echoed by Ol-Karia Ward MCA Peter Palang’a and his Naivasha East Counterpart Stanley Karanja. The duo stating that they will do all they can to ensure justice that the children asked for is served.
In February this year, the County Government of Nakuru was on spot for rounding up street children who were later found dumped at Torongo area in Baringo.
