Deputy President William Ruto’s efforts to visit Kabarak and have a handshake with his political father and mentor retired President Daniel Moi have proved futile.
After the botched attempted handshake last year, it was communicated that DP Ruto would meet Mzee Moi within a short time but no meeting has brought the two kings of politics in the Rift Valley region together.
This is the right time for the DP to seek the intervention of Mzee Moi as his presidential bid in the coming general elections continue to experience blows and what has been termed as efforts to paralyse his efforts to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta.
The recent appointment of Interior Cabinet secretary Dr Fred Matiangi as the 'Chief Minister' and the March 9th handshake between president Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga clearly indicates that the promised endorsement of Ruto by the president might not be fulfilled.
For this reason, Ruto visit to Kabarak will first of all help him consolidate the large Rift Valley region which is at the moment divided into Senator Moi's and DP Ruto’s supporters.
Mzee Moi can help in solving the current internal feuds which might easily block Ruto’s journey to the state house.
In the event that President Kenyatta and GEMA community fail to honour their promise, Mzee Moi's blessings and the support for Senator Moi and KANU will boost Ruto’s bid and he will easily win the upcoming presidential race.
