The strike began on Tuesday and has since paralysed services in all public hospitals in Kisii until the CBA is implemented.

This comes shortly after the notice written to the county government of 14 days and a copy left in the Ministry of Labour expired.

According to the chair of the Nyanza region Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Kevin Osuri, Ongwae is not taking matters seriously.

Osuri said the working conditions of the doctors is 'pathetic'.  He added that the doctors are unable to cater for their basic needs because they are earning "peanuts".

"We issued a notice to the county government on 14 May but it was not responded to. We, therefore, started the strike and doctors will not be reporting on duty until the CBA has been implemented. We will only go back to duty with comprehensive NHIF (National Hospital Insurance Fund) coverage; we will only go back to duty once all doctors who are due for study leave are released.” Osuri said.
