When Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was dramatically arrested by EACC sleuths over corruption, the expectation of many a NASA supporters was that Raila Odinga would visit and defend him.
That did not happen.
Raila not only did not present himself at the EACC offices but he also did not speak to the media about the arrest.
Not even a squeak came from him.
This notwithstanding the fact Kidero was a close Raila ally and financier.
The question in the minds of many is: What may have informed Raila's decision not to come through for Kidero in his moment of tribulation.
In trying to unravel this puzzle, understanding the context in which Kidero was arrested is important.
Kidero was arrested after the dramatic handshake between Raila and President Uhuru.
Speaking in support of the former governor would jeopardise the progress made by the handshake.
Raila himself had publicly declared his support for the war against corruption, defending Kidero would cast aspersions on his commitment to the anti-graft war.
