Deputy President William Ruto will land in Nyanza on Saturday as he continues to launch development projects across the country and perhaps convince Kenyans that he is best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Saturday visit comes less than a week after the DP toured the region that has traditionally supported opposition chief Raila Odinga and his return may mean he is not pausing in his relentless efforts to lure the lakeside region to vote for him in 2022.
The DP according to a local daily will mainly tour Kuria East and Kuria West constituencies and his return come amid heightened pressure from Luo Nyanza politicians who are telling him to drop his presidential bid because of his corruption record.
Ruto during the tour will among other things officiate at the opening of the Kendege Technical Training Institute in Kuria East before holding a series of fundraisers.
Kuria East MP Maisori Kitayama confirmed the tour.
"Plans to welcome the DP in Kuria are already complete. His visit is a follow up to a promise he made when he visited two months ago. This time, he will be coming to commission the Kendege Technical Training Institute and lead a fundraiser for churches in the region," the MP said.
Ruto visited Migori County on Monday but was shocked as local leaders boycotted his activities. Only embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado and MPs who were defeated during last year's general election - Edick Anyang'a (Nyatike) and Martin Ogindo (Rangwe) - were on standby to recieve him.
The DP said he would not be scared by the boycott as he is entitled to visit any region in Kenya for he is the Deputy President.
