Rift Valley region usually plays a major role when it comes to Kenyan politics. This vote-rich region is known for its unity and massive voting whenever any election is held in the country.
Nonetheless, it has produced many strong, powerful and most dreaded leaders. Here is a list of 3 such politicians from the region;
Daniel Moi
Retired President Daniel Arap Moi served as Kenya’s president for twenty-four years after deputising the late Jomo Kenyatta for about ten years. Moi's regime will never fade away from Kenyan history as it was characterized by major political, economic and even social scandals. Mzee Moi was known as a principled man and anybody who tried to oppose or criticize his plans met the worst.
William Ruto
He is arguably the current Kalenjin kingpin. Ruto rose from a very humble background to be the second man in command in the country. He is considered one of the smartest politicians in the country and he is known to be a strong believer of his dreams. DP Ruto has already declared his presidential bid in the coming general elections and he the source of sleepless nights to anybody who thinks of vying for the presidential seat in 2022.
Isaac Ruto
The former Bomet governor is no doubt the current strongest politician from the South Rift. Although he lost in 2017, it was evident that the former Chepalungu MP commanded a large number of supporters in the region which was perceived to be Jubilee’s stronghold, a party which he strongly opposed.
