Renowned entrepreneur and businessman Ong'era Moturi is dead. Mr Moturi succumbed on Wednesday evening at Nairobi Hospital after months of treatment.
His son, Rodgers Moturi confirmed the death, adding that he had suffered from a stroke since November and has literally been operating from the hospital.
"We admitted him in November and doctors have been treating him. He suffered from a stroke and unfortunately, he died on Wednesday night," he said on phone.
Mr Moturi is the owner of popular Guardian Hotel, Guardian Angel buses and the Nyamira Express buses. He had an interest in hotel and transport businesses and was regarded as a role model to many.
Governor John Nyagarama, in a press statement on Thursday, hailed Moturi as an 'entrepreneur who believed in wealth creation, resource mobilisation and creating of jobs'.
"I have received the news of Moturi's death with shock and sympathy. He was an advisor and a mentor to many. It's a massive loss to our county.
"Wealth creation, creation of jobs and good governance were on top of his priorities. We shall forever miss him as a county. May God confort his family this trying moment," the statement read.
Considered as one of the most successful businessman in Gusii region, Moturi, who was born in 1924, was almost among top influencers in the geopolitics of the vast county of Nyamira.
The family says friends are meeting to organise his funeral and the progress will be communicated through various media outlets throughout the country.
