Leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have maintained that he is the next presidential candidate for the party while another section led by the immediate former vice chairman for the party David Murathe have made it clear that Ruto should forget the Jubilee party ticket in the coming presidential elections.

President Uhuru Kenyatta who is the party leader has on his side avoided the debate despite his public promises during the 2013 and 2017 campaigns that he will automatically endorse DP Ruto to succeed him.

The debate has led to a politically tensed environment in the Rift Valley region since the region was expecting Uhuru and his Mt Kenya region to honour their promise and payback for the support they were offered during 2013 and 2017 elections.

Politics cannot be predicted but it's evident that DPRuto might fail to secure the Jubilee’s presidential ticket.

Incase of this unlikely event, Ruto and the entire Rift Valley region will have only two options.

They will have to choose between supporting the Jubilee’s preferred candidate or form a new party now that they already dissolved the United Republican Party (URP).

DP Ruto is enjoying the maximum support of Rift Valley’s voters and politicians and the formation of a new party that will represent the interests of the region may still earn him the presidential seat.
