National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has told Kenyans to stop 'pressuring' President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Many Kenyans want Uhuru who is currently in China to assent to an amendment by the National Assembly that will see the recent 16 per cent VAT imposed on all petroleum products suspended for another two years.
Duale, speaking on Citizen TV on Wednesday during an interview, said that the amendment is yet to be tabled before the president.
"There is no need to put pressure on the president because there is no law on his table as we speak today," said Duale.
He trashed the amendment that was passed by the National Assembly last week which he opposed, saying his counterparts should have looked for a way to rework on the VAT Act.
Duale who is the de facto leader of government business in the National Assembly by the virtue of his position also told off the MPs over their threat to impeach Treasury CS Henry Rotich accusing them of hypocrisy.
"I say the MPs are being hypocritical in as far as saying they want a Kamukunji, or that we should impeach CS Rotich. The operation of that law was suspended for three years and later for two years and the MPs had all the time to amend it," he added.
He, however, noted that after listening to many Kenyans' concern they will advise CS Rotich to reconsider the law noting that there are other sectors from which revenue can be collected.
