Korane met with Zaitun Yusuf at the county offices on Thursday where he handed her a cheque to cater for her full-year school fees.

Earlier, the governor had issued the poor but bright student Sh50, 000 for her shopping to Form One.

The 16-year-old girl from Bula Mzuri area in Garissa scored 387 marks KCPE.

However, her family could not raise her Form One school fees after she was selected to join Buru Buru Girls High School in Nairobi.

The poor but bright student’s plight was highlighted by a local TV station and got governor Korane’s attention.

While handing the student her one-year school fees cheque, Korane promised to pay the rest of the girls four years fees before the year ends.

He said that his government will establish a kitty to sponsor bight but needy students.

The Garissa Governor said that he was touched by Zeitun’s story, adding that he will build the student’s family a decent house and pay medical bills for her ailing father.
