Police in Migori are detaining county Governor Okoth Obado's aide over alleged involvement in the abduction of Nation reporter Barrack Oduor and a university student Sharon Otieno.
Detectives on Tuesday arrested Michael Oyamo over the Monday night incident, where the two were bundled into a car, assaulted and robbed in the process.
County CID boss Benedict Kigen has since confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect was nabbed in Uriri, reports the Nation.
Obado has, however, disowned his Personal Assistant, distancing himself from the incident and terming any attempt to incorporate him into the same a political plot to tarnish his reputation.
“Governor Obado is not aware of such a plan and his name should not be dragged into such criminal schemes. Let police do the investigations and take necessary actions,” his Press Secretary Nicholas Anyuor was quoted by the Nation.
Mr Oduor and Ms Otieno were set to meet Oyamo who was to equip them with information on an upcoming saga, apparently within the county government.
The were, however, abducted after leaving Graca Hotel in Rongo town, after Oyamo allegedly fooled them into boarding a car that was to supposedly take them to another place for the meeting.
The reporter, however, escaped by jumping off the speeding car at Nyangweso Market along the Homabay-Kisumu Road and is nursing serious hand and back injuries emanating from the fall at the Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu.
Ms Otieno has since been found dead in Homa Bay.
