Several families have been displaced in Usenge and Got Agulu villages in Siaya following heavy rains that pounded the area over the weekend.

Property has also been destroyed following the flooding that has also cut off road connections and destroyed crops and houses in the two villages as well as neighbouring ones.

Consequently, villagers of Urima, Usonga and Uhundha areas who have also been affected and are now appealing for aid following the storm that also destroyed boats at the beaches.

Area Sub Chief Paul Olang' said that measures have been put in place to assist the affected residents. 

The heavy rains and winds also destroyed electricity lines.

In Usonga and Usali villages, motorbikes and other valuables were abandoned after their owners took off in efforts to escape the floods.

Residents now fear that the destruction of their farms might see the region experience a food shortage in the future.

Robert Agoyo, a resident of Got Agulu urged the government to establish lasting solutions, proposing the construction of the Goye causeway to prevent such cases in the future.

On his part, Mr Frederick Otieno called for quick intervention from the government.

“The concerned authorities should act very fast to ensure that we are not affected beyond this,” said Mr Otieno.
