For the past few weeks, Kenya's diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Somalia has steadily been getting worse, thanks to the ongoing maritime row pitting oil wells along the Indian Ocean.

Amid the row, it is apparent that Kenya could be staring at fresh security threats from terrorist groups as  Al-Shabaab, and to some extent, the ISIS who might be watching from a distance, hoping that Kenya gets into a war with Somalia.

It is a fact that terrorists take advantage of situations of anarchy to thrive. With this in mind, the Islamic terror groups might then emerge to take full advantage of the ensuing confusion and chaos.

It has long been argued that when diplomats fail, automatically, politicians will take over. When the politicians fail, military take over. And when the military fails, terrorists will finally take the moment.

But as a matter of fact, terrorists do not wait for the military to succeed or even fail. Rather, they will immediately insert themselves into the ensuing confusion and engineer chaos in a bid to weaken the military into failure.

Therefore, Kenya and Somalia should get into serious talks over the looming maritime row as the only way of ridding terrorist elements from taking advantage of the situation to thrive.
