Former Subukia Member of Parliament Koigi wa Wamwere has faulted the government's latest move to increase tax on petroleum products.
This follows National Treasury Friday's introduction of a new 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT), meaning that Kenyans will have to pay more for petrol, diesel and Kerosene.
Speaking on Sauti Ya Mwananchi Saturday evening, the former assistant minister termed the move as another blow to Kenyans who are already struggling to survive.
He added that the government is actually lucky that Kenyans remain calm despite the new development and have not resorted to protests.
"Huku ni kuwaumiza wakenya na serikali iko na bahati maana wakenya wamebaki watulivu (the government is lucky that Kenyans have remained calm despite the new development)," he said.
His remarks were echoed by fellow panelist and former Nakuru chair of the now-defunct The National Alliance party (TNA) Abdul Noor.
Noor added that Kenyans have no other choice after reelecting the Jubilee government into power.
"Wakenya hawana usemi mwingine maana uwezo wao uliisha October 26 baada ya uchaguzi (Kenyans have no other option after making their final decision on October 26)," Noor said.
The price increment has since elicited mixed reactions, with most Kenyans opposing the new prices.
Consequently, transport cost has already shot up in most parts of the nation, with the same likely to result to another hike in the prices of basic commodities.
