Jetlak Food Limited, a company associated with the manufacturing of Nuteez peanut butter in Ruiru has distanced itself from the blame apportioned to it, that the company had been 'incorporating' poison into their product.
The company hit back at those criticising it after a public health official in Nandi, Linus Kogo, intercepted their products being transported in the county after they were suspected to be contaminated as quoted by Daily nation.
“We found them transporting cosmetics, juice and the peanut butter and asked for a medical certificate and food hygiene licence from their staff, which they did not have.
"We suspected contamination and tested random samples from just one batch whose results you have seen. We still have two other batches to test,” Kogo added.
Through the company lawyer, Kelvin Mogeni, the company claimed that poor storage techniques by distributors contributed to the growth of the antitoxins on the food product.
“The result of poor storage before they were tested could lead to the high aflatoxin results we are told. Local distributors in Nandi County may also be at fault because how they store the products cannot be blamed on the manufacturer,”
