This is after strong winds ripped off their schools roofs over the weekend as heavy rains and strong winds bounded the area in Bokeira Ward.

Matongo Boys Secondary school’s four classes and staffroom and Nyakaranga Primary School’s all classes and staffroom were destroyed in the weekend storm.

Nobody was injured in both incidents. In both incidents, roofs were carried several meters away from the scene, all of them being done recently by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty.

Area Member of Parliament Joash Nyamoko and Bokeira ward representative Ms Callen Atuya on Sunday visited the two affected schools where they assured the locals that the government would foot the bills and reconstruct the buildings in time.

“We are sorry for this calamity and we are thankful that no one was injured during this destruction, we are not blaming anybody for this as it a natural cause. Am working closely with the county government to ensure that the classes are done in time for our children to continue with their learning,” said Nyamoko.

Nyamoko said that over Sh10 million is urgently needed to put the learners back to normal studies. On her part, Ms Callen Atuya said she would ensure the assembly convenes a special sitting to address the matter. The assembly commenced its recess last week till 4th of June.

“Am going to calling the speaker Hon. Moffat Teya to convene a special sitting in our assembly so as we can allocate funds to address this emergency before end of this week to ensure the learning of our students more so candidates is not affected,” she added.

She also urged the county government to offer support in leveling the ground where Nyakaranga Primary sits, which she noted could have been the cause of destruction.

The school lies atop hill and sloppy place. Ms Atuya asked the residents to avoid sheltering in buildings near trees during this rainy season.
