Nine people were on Monday arraigned in court in connection to the murder of five family members in Rongo last week.
The group which was arrested over the weekend is facing charges of setting ablaze the home of the five in Nyang'ao village over allegations of involvement in witchcraft.
The nine were presented before Principal Magistrate Moses Obiero but did not take a plea and were remanded at the Migori GK Prisons.
They will appear again in court on March 18 to take a plea.
The nine are Collins Odhiambo, Benson Nyangwara, Bernard Ochieng, Mary Ouma, Joseph Ojowi, John Odeka, Ben Omondi, Joash Onyango and Lucas Nyandiga.
The magistrate remanded the group to give the police time to complete investigations, reports the Monday Standard.
The accused allegedly burnt the houses in Elijah Odawo's homestead, accusing his elderly mother Maritha Amollo, of using witchcraft to kill a fellow villager.
Those who died after being burnt inside the houses are Ms Maritha, Odawo's wife Helida Akinyi and their three children who are pupils at the nearby Opapo Primary School.
However, Mr Odawo managed to escape death in the hands of the irate crowd by fleeing into a nearby sugarcane plantation.
