One person has been confirmed dead in a Saturday evening accident at Misambi Trading Center, along the Oyugis-Kisumu Road.
Seven other people sustained serious injuries in the accident involving a minibus and a motorbike.
Victor Owuor who was riding the motorcycle died instantly, after the driver of the bus which was ferrying mourners lost control and rammed into the rear of his motorbike.
Confirming the incident, Homabay County Police Commander Marius Tum noted that the bus further overturned and rolled severally after the driver lost control.
He said that the driver who has been identified as Michael Wambua Maina is being held at the Oyugis Police Station awaiting arraignment.
The injured, he told the Citizen Digital, are receiving treatment at the Matata Hospital in Oyugis Town.
He added that the body of the deceased has been moved to the Rachuonyo District Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending collection and burial.
The police boss further called upon road users to observe traffic rules to avoid such incidents.
Both the minibus and the motorcycle were towed to the Oyugis Police Station.
