Friday's death of Prof. Ouma Muga, a distinguished academician and politician, marked the culmination of a mission well accomplished without dividends though.
Muga, a scholar with reputation, succumbed to diabetes after many years of struggle.
Unlike his peers, some of who seek treatment at high profile hospitals, his death as Kikuyu Mission Hospital is an indication of a man with rich history but with little to show out of it.
Besides his academic journey, Muga's politics commenced in 1989 when he was elected Rangwe MP on Kanu and a subsequent Assistant Minister nomination.
He'd defend his seat on Ford Kenya in 1992 but the death of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in 1994 marked the beginning of his misery in murky politics.
Going against Raila Odinga for Wamalwa Kijana in party leadership cost him 1997 elections and since then, he was thrown to political oblivion.
But his prediction in 2006 that Raila will never become president even cost him many friends.
He was however vindicated since even until now, despite claiming victory in three elections, Raila has never been president.
Although it's not clear whether he was talking out of vendetta, his prophecy about Mr. Odinga stands less it changes in 2022.
Interestingly, Mr. Muga was reportedly dismissed from cabinet after it emerged that he took credit for President Daniel Moi's compelling presentation on Global Warming at Rio de Jeneiro.
It will however be interesting to see what political elites will say in the day of his funeral.
