A group of youths in Laikipia on Saturday ‘killed’ Women Rep Cate Waruguru and held a mock burial for the vocal politician.
In a low key protest, the residents carried placards with anti-Waruguru slogans as well as a coffin in which the Women Rep was ‘buried’ in.
With placards reading R.I.P Waruguru, the protestors went around Nanyuki among other towns in Laikipia announcing their opposition to Waruguru.
They accused her of neglecting the county while engaging in national politics.
“We see her politicking on TV yet she is not helping us,” a protestor said.
The Women Rep, popularly known as Mama Simba or Daughter of Zion, has been at loggerheads with several politicians in the county. With fearlessness, she takes on deputy governor John Mwaniki who she recently accused of threatening to kill her.
"He has threatened to take my life and that of my supporters and staff members who question his integrity. In case of any harm caused to me or any of my staff, I want Mwaniki to know he would be held responsible. If it means death, I am ready to be first woman martyr," she said on Tuesday, February 5.
An ally of Waruguru said they will not be ‘intimidated by paid goons’.
“We know Mwaniki and Gichere paid a few goons to protest today. They have seen too well who the people of Laikipia are with as they refused to join such a scheme,” Paul Ndirangu said.
Ndirangu said those who financed the protests should stop hiding.
“If they are men enough, let them come out and face the daughter of zion, Fire Mamaa,” he added.
