A Kisumu based musician has started a campaign aimed at raising money to be channeled towards reaching out to a section of Kenyans who have been affected by hunger in Baringo and Turkana counties.
James Ngoje, known by stage name Oliver Msanii is running the campaign under the Lisha Mtaa Organization he started over one year ago with a friend known as Benson Kamau who is based in Naivasha.
“This campaign will run for one month. We urge our friends and Kenyans of goodwill to support us as we try to offer the little help we have to our brothers and sisters in the affected areas,” said Oliver Msanii.
Anyone willing to donate can send any amount of money starting with Sh10 to pay bill number 158447, account name Lisha Mtaa or Turkana.
In an exclusive interview on Thursday, the musician said their target is to raise at least Sh50, 000 within a duration of one month.
“After raising the money, we will buy foodstuffs and go to Turkana. We will coordinate with county government officials so that the food is donated to the most affected families,” he added.
He urged Kenyans to join hands in helping those in need.
“We should assist those in need. You never know what will happen tomorrow. Today it is Turkana and Baringo, tomorrow it might be another place,” he insisted.
Oliver Msanii is known for hit songs such as Kazi kwa Bidii, My only one, Wabonge and Go Gaga.
Reports indicate that over one million Kenyans are faced with starvation due to drought being witnessed in some parts of the country.
Over 10 people have reportedly died from hunger in Turkana and Baringo counties, with government officials led by the Deputy President William Ruto claiming that no Kenyan has died as a result of starvation.
