A section of Elgeyo Marakwet leaders now claims that the Sh21 billion corruption scandal facing Arror and Kimwarer dams is a plot by president Uhuru Kenyatta to deny Deputy President William Ruto the presidency in 2022.
Led by Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Philemon Sebulei, the leaders have wondered why other dams such as Karimenu II, Itare and Thwake are not under investigation yet the procurement process was the same.
“What is happening at Kimwarer and Arror dams is pure 2022 politics. We want to tell President Uhuru Kenyatta that if he doesn't want Ruto to be president in 2022 he should leave Kalenjin community and all projects that are here to continue instead of taking us left, right and centre,” said Sabeluei during a media briefing in Eldoret on Saturday.
“We know Uhuru has a problem with Ruto because of his friend Raila; we don’t have a problem with that but using corruption claims so that the Arror and Kimwarer dams are stopped and taken to another county, we won't allow that,” added Marakwet West MP William Kisang.
The leaders who also included Keiyo South MP Daniel Rono, County Woman Representative Jane Chebaibai and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) however, reiterated their support for ongoing investigations into possible graft in the procurement of the two mega dams.
They said that if it will be found that public funds were lost, those involved should face the full force of the law.
