Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo is the politician to watch ahead of the much anticipated 2022 general election.
Kabogo who lost re-election in the August 8 2017 polls seems to have re-invented himself politically and continues to grab headlines even as the 2022 succession politics takes centre stage.
The former Juja MP has remained politically active, commenting on national issues such as corruption.
Kabogo has also been vocal on the ongoing succession politics and has pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta not to betray his Deputy William Ruto.
The former Kiambu governor argues that it is Ruto who helped Uhuru to become president in 2013 and 2017 general election and that it will be wrong if he betrays him.
According to Kiambu based political analyst Peter Ngure, Kabogo is among politicians who are likely to shape the direction the 2022 presidential succession politics will take in Mt Kenya region and the country at large.
“It is difficult to rule Kabogo out of the 2022 presidential succession politics because of his political experience,” Ngure said in an interview on Thursday.
According to Ngure, Kabogo’s influence in Mt Kenya will also determine whether the region will support DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
Kabogo is among politicians who have claimed that it will not be automatic for Mt Kenya to back Ruto’s 2022 bid.
There is speculation that Kabogo could deputize Ruto should Mt Kenya agree to back his 2022 presidential bid.
