Kuria had in a tweet called for the former Harambee Stars forward to be allowed to contribute to growing football in the country instead of being thrust into the rough and tumble of politics.

"Let Macdonald Mariga spend time to grow our football and our talents. Politics will be there today tomorrow an the day after tomorrow. (Siasa itakuwepo leo, kesho na mtondogoo). @WilliamsRuto let the young man be. He will live to join this silly, dirty game of politics another day," read the MP's tweet.

Senator Cheruiyot, however, asked Kuria to leave Mariga alone pointing out that his decision to contest in the Kibra Parliamentary race was informed by the desire to serve the people of the constituency.

"Moses Kuria should let @MarigaOfficial be. If he's heeding to a call from deep within to serve the people of Kibra, he deserves a chance. If Tnap thinks he is unfit, they can run a candidate they consider fit. That is democracy. Ama ?" he noted.

The ruling Jubilee party has already nominated Mariga as its flag-bearer in the Kibra by-election.

He will slug it out with Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate Eliud Owalo and a candidate that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will nominate.
