Political analyst Michael Agwanda has laughed off Deputy President William Ruto’s apparent attempts to woo the Coastal region ahead of his 2022 presidential bid.
Though popularized as developmental trips, which have seen him launch several infrastructural development projects, the tours have also been translated as a campaign technique as he warms up for the race.
However, according to Agwanda who was speaking on Radio Maisha on Monday, Ruto will not achieve anything, no matter how many Coast leaders he manages to pull to his side.
He said that Ruto will have to shoulder all the Jubilee Government’s failures in his campaigns, noting that the region’s voters will most likely opt for another leader, judging Ruto by the Jubilee Government’s inability to transform their lives.
‘’Pwani haiwezi mpigia Ruto kura kwa sababu amekua serikalini kama Naibu wa Rais wa serikali ambayo haijawashughulikia (the Coast will not vote him because he is part of the government that has failed them),’’ said the commentator.
This, however, comes at a time when a section of opposition-allied leaders from the region has openly endorsed his bid, vowing to lead the region deemed to lean towards the opposite side into backing him.
Such include Malindi lawmaker Aisha Jumwa, who was elected on the opposition’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket in the concluded poll.
