Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) candidate for the concluded Migori senatorial by-election Eddy Oketch has appreciated Migori residents who backed his bid.

Oketch emerged second in the race that was won by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Ochilo Ayacko.

Addressing the press in Migori moments after Ayacko was declared the victor Tuesday morning, Oketch who conceded defeat expressed his gratitude to his supporters.

He lauded the people, noting that they have demonstrated their support for electoral justice and democracy.

“The people of Migori have become the face of fighting for electoral justice, democracy and alternative leadership in Kenya," he was quoted by the Citizen Digital.

The youthful leader who was taking his second shot at the seat garnered 60, 555 votes of the 147, 740 valid counted votes, this representing 40.99 percent of the votes.

Ayacko on the other hand carried the day after surpassing the 50 percent mark, scoring 85, 234 votes (57.69 percent).

In his first attempt in the concluded 2017 general elections, the 27-year-old politician lost to former broadcaster and popular radio presenter Ben Oluoch Okello.

The seat was left vacant following the death of Okello who succumbed to cancer on June 19, 2018, barely a year after coming to power.
