Detectives whisked away Migori Governor Okoth Obado in police vehicles from Nyanza Regional DCI offices under tight security raising questions over his fate.
For seven hours, Obado was subjected to intense grilling by detectives over possible links to mysterious murder of Sharon Otieno, a second year university student last week.
Earlier, sources indicated that Obado had been subjected to DNA testing possibly to ascertain whether he was the father to the deceased's unborn baby.
Despite driving in his official vehicle, it is however not clear why police decided to whisk him away in police vehicles.
His lawyer Cliff Ombeta has however dismissed claims that he's under arrest, insisting that he had cooperated with detectives.
"Our client was not arrested. He came here to give his statement and that is what he has done," Mr Ombeta said.
Mr. Michael Oyamo, his PA who had been arrested in connection with the murder, was taken to Nairobi and is expected to take plea on Wednesday.
Sharon's mother, Melida Auma had claimed that Obado had intimate relationship with the slain student.
