It all started by a simple text from a user which outlined nepotism in the county government of Nyamira before it escalated into fierce online criticism.
And on Monday, Governor John Nyagarama had not otherwise other than to advertise a position in CPSB, where he had irregularly nominated his cousin, Kennedy Mong'are.
With social media users attacking him from all corners for unwarranted nepotism, a hawk-eyed speaker of the county assembly Moffat Teya approached the governor to question the accuracy of the report.
"I read texts about nepotism and contravention of the constitution on social media. He had already sent names of nominees for vetting.
"I asked him about the advertisement to the same posts but they were nowhere. That's why he had to advertise as required by the law," Teya said in an interview.
Already, activist Vincent Omao had filed a petition challenging nomination of Mr Mong'are and David Nyachiro on grounds that the law was not followed.
"I can assure you that the names are going nowhere. We must ensure the law is followed at all times. The petition still stands because it's only one position that was advertised."
Mr Nyagarama has been on the receiving end with social media users accusing him of recruiting many relatives to government without following due process of the law.
Of the nine member cabinet, sources say four of them are directly related to him following the latest inclusion of Pauline Oyugi, his sister-in-law.
