Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka's political walk is characterized by betrayal, tension, and sacrifices.
Before the 2007 general elections, the two were great political friends until their ship hit an iceberg.
Raila’s dream of becoming president was dealt a major blow after Kalonzo bolted out of the political movement to contest for the presidency under ODM Kenya.
Kalonzo's candidature made Raila to forget Kamba votes.
In a past interview, lawyer Mugambi Imanyara revealed that Raila and his allies approached him to register ODM so that he could contest for the nation’s top seat.
"Those who felt left out by Kalonzo's party, including Raila, approached me to give them the party to use as there was little time left. I met with Raila many times and agreed to give him the party," Imanyara said.
Kalonzo faced former President Mwai Kibaki and Raila during the 2007 general elections after nominating Julia Ojiambo as his running mate.
Raila’s team comprised of Deputy President William Ruto, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, CS Najib Balala and Nyagah under the infamous Pentagon.
The bolting out of Kalonzo meant that Raila did not stand a chance to win the Kamba vote.
In a surprising twist of events, Kalonzo accepted to be named Kenya's Vice President by Kibaki.
It was this move that saw Kalonzo labelled watermelon.
