In 2015, I wrote an article that Kinuthia Mbugua would be a one-term governor for Nakuru. In dissecting Mbugua’s style of leadership, I referred him to Robert Greene’s 18th law in his classic 48 Laws of Power.
Mbugua created fortresses when he got into office and forgot the people.
This denied him necessary information on what the people wanted. From where I sat, I could see Mbugua tumbling down in 2022. But his allies and online rabble-rousers could hear none of it. The rest as we all know is history.
Thank God the former governor got some soft-landing as a gatekeeper at State House.
Today, from where I sit again, I can tell you for sure that Lee Maiyan Kinyanjui will be a one-term governor. I know Mr Governor, your supporters and online hatch men will be angry at this, but I chose telling politicians the hard truth be my noble duty.
And without beating around the bush, you will be defeated by Senator Susan Kihika. It is not that Kihika will do anything special to Nakuru residents which you have not done, but she will defeat you.
I know that is painful to even imagine but I am telling you what your Political Adviser Beatrice Nyawira cannot tell you.
Just like Kinuthia Mbugua, you have refused to make the 48 Laws of Power your leadership manual.
When ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was in prison, Kenya’s most influential politician Raila Odinga gifted him the book.
Raila is not foolish. You gift people that which you have used and liked!
In the book, Greene advised politicians to crash their enemies totally, you failed to do that when Kihika staged a fight in the race for Nakuru County Assembly and defeated you.
Instead of scheming on how to nip her in the bud, you went home and slept. Her victory only gave her impetus for future rivalries.
Kihika has become a perfectionist of the 6th law in the book. She courts attention at all costs.
She was there during the Solai tragedy, followed up the case and fashioned herself a lover of justice.
When the county government denied day scholars bursary, she was there demanding that every child who cannot pay her/his fee be considered.
When you bought courtesy buses, she poked holes on what between buses and ambulances were a priority.
To cut a long story, Kihika courts attention at all costs while you cut the image of a meek governor.
What’s unseen doesn’t count and all that matters is what is seen and appears to be true. Don’t let yourself disappear in the grey crowd then but stand out at all costs,” the law states.
Mr Governor, stop being too quiet. There is a reason why the noisiest people are successful politicians. Politics is not for gentlemen!
Your style of leadership has made many feel a vacuum, and when a father becomes too quiet … the mother roars.
You will be whitewashed in 2022, take this to the bank!
