Residents of Kegogi in Keroka, Nyamira County are mourning the death of a two and half years baby boy who drowned in a dam.
Area assistant chief Kennedy Ndege said the deceased was playing near the killer dam when he accidentally fell into the dam.
"The dam is 80 feet deep and efforts to have local leaders push for the dam to be fenced have been in vain. The deceased was left at their home alone with her mother when he drowned in the dam," he said.
Mr Ndege said the deceased drowned after he tried to retrieve a tyre he was playing with from the shores of the dam.
He warned parents whose houses are near the killer dam against abandoning their children at home alone.
"Parents must be responsible throughout to curb unnecessary deaths of their sons and daughters," he noted.
The chief said locals managed to retrieve the body of the deceased before police collected it to Gucha hospital morgue.
Ndege assured that he will continue pushing local leaders to fund the fencing of the killer dam.
