Controversial Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria's presidential bid was dismissed by a section of Mt Kenya leaders in presence of Deputy President William Ruto, who is keen to win confidence from the region ahead of 2022.
At the burial of Jenifer Njuki, the mother to Tharaka-Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, Kuria insisted that he's ready to run for president, dismissing critics who have written him off already.
But Governors Ann Waiguru (Kirinyaga) and Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) were quick to dismiss Kuria's bid, adding that they solidly back Dr Ruto for the top seat.
“In our language, we say a wise person does not need to be told a lot of things,” Waiguru said.
For Waititu, the Mt Kenya region has already settled in Ruto, whom he says will spearhead the Jubilee party agenda post Uhuru Kenyatta's presidency.
“There is no confusion at all with the direction we are heading as a community in Kiambu County. We are just waiting for the time to support Ruto,” he said.
Mr Kuria, who recently accused Jubilee administration of sidelining Mt Kenya region in development, expressed his confidence ahead of 2022 when he was hosted by Citizen TV recently.
For the better part of last year, Kuria was the lead campaigner of Dr William Ruto in the vast Mt Kenya region, but changed tune recently 'after realising that he can also run for president'.
Dr Ruto is trying to regain control over the region which is facing political uncertainty due to impending exit of President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
