Former Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe has heaped praise on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Speaking during a consultative meeting convened by Kalonzo at his Yatta farm on Tuesday, Murathe said that Kenyans are indebted to Kalonzo.
He noted that Kalonzo saved the country from anarchy during the during the 2007/2008 post poll chaos.
The former Gatanga MP said that Kalonzo’s decision to join hands with former president Mwai Kibaki at the height of the violence saved the nation.
“Although Mr Musyoka has publicly declared that there are no political debts, the people of Mt Kenya feel indebted to you,” Murathe said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
He also called on Ukambani leaders to unite and rally behind Kalonzo’s 2022 presidential behind.
The former Jubilee Party chairman presence at the meeting has elicited debate with speculations that Mt Kenya region could support Kalonzo in 2022.
Murathe is a critic of Deputy President William Ruto.
He wants DP Ruto to retire alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Political pundits say that it will be a major boost for Kalonzo if he gets Mt Kenya’s backing in 2022.
Kalonzo has insisted that his name will be on the presidential ballot in 2022. He is, however, facing a rebellion in his backyard as a section of his close allies have shows signs of abandoning him.
The former VP is also facing stiff competition on the fact that Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has equally declared an interest in the 2022 presidential election.
