Leaders from Western Kenya are now calling for the sacking of Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
Led by Lugari's Ayub Savula, the leaders accuse Rotich of wrongdoing in the sugar importation that has generated heated debate in the political scene.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, the lawmakers stated that Rotich killed the sugar industry by allowing importation of duty free sugar.
This comes after Interim Head of the Sugar Directorate Solomon Odera told the parliamentary committee probing the sugar saga that a gazette notice issued by Treasury allowed any company to import sugar.
He stated that the directorate was not involved.
Savula alleged that 82 MPs had already signed a petition calling for the removal of Rotich. The petition is expected to be presented to President Uhuru for action.
The MPs further alleged that KRA, also lost Sh10 billion in taxes following the illegal importation by 14 companies. The companies are alleged to have evaded tax.
The 14 companies include;Flora Bakers Limited, Piccadily Holding Limited, Landmark Freight Services, Darasa Investment Limited, Pillarmatt Limited, The Option Two Limited, Ifox Commodity Limited, Paleah Stores Limited, Mapping Trading Company, Sukari Investment Limited, Elon Commodities (K) Limited, Coast Terminal East Africa Limited, Zack Petroleum Limited, Export Trading Company Limited.
