Embattled Calvary Chosen Centre Church founder Bishop David Ngari alias Gakuyo has found himself in more trouble after disgruntled Ekeza Sacco members angrily stormed into his Thika-based church on Sunday demanding that he gives them back their money.
Gakuyo, who was put on the spot after an inquiry report on the Sacco put him at the centre of misappropriation of members funds, was left with no option but to address the irate members.
The report that was released almost two weeks ago shows that Gakuyo allegedly transferred over Sh1 billion from Ekeza Sacco's account between 2015 and 2017 to his personal account.
"So we can say the money Gakuyo owes members is about Sh1 billion. This is the money he took illegally and without any approval of the members, and it is the money we want him to pay," Stephen Njoroge, one of the appointed liquidator-receiver, said during the Sacco's AGM.
Addressing journalists at the church precinct, Gakuyo requested the appointed liquidator agent of his Ekeza Sacco and Gakuyo Real Estate entities to involve him in the disposal of the properties, arguing that some Ekeza members were not members of Gakuyo.
"I am requesting that I be involved in this exercise because I know there are those who were members of Gakuyo and not Ekeza members and vice-versa," he said.
However, the members would hear none of it saying all they wanted is their money and not tales.
"We do not want to hear Abunuwasi stories here. All we want is our money because we are aware that there are several members of the Sacco who had huge loans but they have gone into hiding since the Sacco collapsed. Can he tell us how he will recover that money and the one he swindled because it belongs to us," one elderly Sacco member said.
He noted that they would file a case in court against the bishop if he will not have given them a clear guideline on how he is going to refund their money within 48 hours.
