Deputy President William Ruto has heeded to his boss’ call to an to politicking and instead leaders focus on development.
A furious President Uhuru Kenyatta hit out at elected leaders on Thursday who he said are fond of ‘loitering’ instead of serving the voters.
Speaking in West Pokot county on Saturday, Ruto joined the President in calling an end to the frequent politicking.
Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has asked leaders across the political divide to tone down on politics and start serving Kenyans.“We finished doing politics last year.
It is now time to embark on development. We don’t want leaders to engage in divisive politics,” Mr Ruto said.
The DP was in the county to attend a funds drive in aid of Dini ya Roho Mafuta Pole Afrika Church.
On Thursday, Uhuru left the political scene stirred as he angrily said those engaging in 2022 politics will be shocked by his choice of successor.
"Kenya did two elections in one year and people are tired with politics. What they want now is service delivery," Uhuru said.
He added: “Those who think that I will have nothing to say in 2022 will be shocked; if people are only politicking and not working they will go home.”
The remarks were construed to mean that he no longer considers backing his deputy in 2022 as had been widely believed since 2013.
