An aide to one of the Cabinet Secretaries has denied claims that Deputy President William Ruto is funding political divisions in the former Western Province.
Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa's aide said on Saturday that Ruto has never funded any political activities in the region that boasts of close to three million registered voters.
"Ruto neither funded nor was involved in the planning or financing of the meetings. Are you suggesting that our leaders have no money to buy tea?" the aide who was not named said as quoted by Sunday Nation.
He spoke as reports emerged that CS Wamalwa has been holding meetings with leaders trying to get more support for Ruto.
Three leaders allied to opposition chief Raila Odinga, Caleb Hamisi (Saboti MP), Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and Nominated MP Geoffrey Otsosi alleged that the DP's activity in the Western region has immensely grown and are now questioning the rationale of the DP's interest in the region.
Malala, Otsosi and Hamisi are Ruto's critics in Western and have vowed to ensure the DP does not garner enough votes in the region in 2022.
