As the quest to clear all riparian land off human constructions, many prominent men are bound to clash with authorities.
The latest victim is Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala whose house could be next to be demolished after lobby groups called upon the authorities to bring it down.
The one storey house in Kakamega's Milimani estate is located in close proximity to the Kakamega State Lodge and Masinde Muliro University.
According to Western Land Alliance, a lobby group operating in the area, the government must repossess the land.
The group has already petitioned the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) and the Kakamega county government to lead the demolition and get back the wetland.
“We request Nema to demolish the house with immediate effect because the property has been built on grabbed riparian and wetland,” read the August 13 petition copied to Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, county speaker Morris Buluma and EACC.
