Fatuma Ahmed, Kenya's first women Brigadier in defense forces, has yet again made history after being promoted to a two-star general by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a reshuffle done by Uhuru in 2015, Ahmed, who joined KDF in 1983, was promoted from Colonel, and yet still, was the highest ranking female military officer.
"Major General, let me begin by saying it is my pride and joy to launch the first woman Major General in the republic of Kenya.
"I am looking to you as an inspiration to young women out there. I am happy to have been in charge during this important occasion," said Uhuru.
Consequently, Ahmed, a Kenya Air-force officer, would now serve as assistant Chief of Defense Forces in charge of personnel.
The reshuffle also had army commander Lt. General Robert Kibochi promoted to Vice CDF, replacing Lt. General Joseph Kasaon who retired from the service.
Kenya Air-force will also have Maj. Gen Francis Ogolla as the new boss following the retirement of Maj. Gen Samwel Thuita.
Equally, the promotion of Lt. General Kibochi had Lt. General Walter Raria taking charge of Kenya army.
Ms. Ahmed, a graduate of the prestigious National Defense College, has served as a battalion second-in-command , in addition to other positions in administration.
