Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has issued a stern warning to pickpockets operating within Eldoret town and other major urban centres in the county.
Speaking as he presided over the governors' Christmas tree lighting on Thursday, Mandago warned that those found targeting to steal from unsuspecting members of the public this festive season risk spending the Christmas and New Year behind bars.
“Look for another town or go for Christmas early because if found, you will be arrested and detained in police cells until next year," Mandago warned in a post on his official Facebook page.
The county boss further said tight securities measures are already in place to ensure festive season goes on smoothly.
“I want to assure residents that we have beefed up security, those who want to travel to the villages to greet their relatives should do so without any fear of their safety," Mandago added.
The governor also urged locals on the need to cater for less fortunate in society this festive season.
“We should also help those who are less fortunate in the society. Let's make our contribution and touch their lives during this festive season,” Mandago told locals.
