Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris has opposed calls to scrap the senate and women rep seats.
Passaris says that removing the seats is not the solution to taming the rising wage bill.
The Nairobi MP says that those pushing to scrap women rep seats want to deny Kenyans especially marginalised groups access to government services.
“I don’t support the push to scrap the women representative seats or the senate because they are playing crucial roles in service delivery,” she said on Saturday.
Passaris also opposed the referendum push saying it is costly.
She said that it is not the right time for Kenyans to have a referendum.
“We are barely two years since the August 8, 2017 general election and we cannot afford to have referendum now,” she added.
Passaris also opposed calls for creation of more political seats.
The referendum debate has heated up with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga saying it is unstoppable.
