Over 200 workers of Zena Roses on Tuesday took to the streets of Eldoret town demanding the flower firm to pay them their salary arrears.
The flower firm is owned by the former powerful Minister Sally Kosgei.
Led by the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU) Uasin Gishu branch Secretary Joseph Etabo, the workers said they have not been paid for the last three months.
They accused the firm's management of staying mum over the issue.
“We have stayed for three months without salary, we don’t have protective gear and it’s sad that our colleagues have been sacked without any pay,” Etabo told the press during the peaceful demonstrations.
The workers further said despite them paying their NSSF and NHIF money, it has never been remitted and wondered where the money is taken.
“We will continue with the strike and paralyze everything at Zena Roses until our dues are paid. We want our voice to be heard everywhere for justice to prevail,” KPAWU official insisted.
He also asked Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, County Commissioner Abdi Hassan and the Labor officials to intervene so that they can be paid their salaries as well as addressing other concerns raised over the working environment at the flower firm.
