Nakuru Town East Member of Parliament (MP) David Gikaria has been arrested.
According to the Daily Nation, Gikaria was arrested on Saturday afternoon in Pipeline estate, Nakuru following an alleged land grabbing fracas.
The Nation reports that Nakuru County Deputy Commander Kirinya Limbitu said the MP allegedly slapped a deputy sub county police commander during the alleged fracas.
Mr Limbitu told the Nation that the second term legislator will be arraigned in court on Monday.
It is alleged that Mr Gikaria and area MCA Humphrey Mwaniki were planning to lead youths to construct illegal structures on private property before police intervened leading to fracas.
“They were planning to construct structures on private property so we swung into action and disperses the youth,” Mr Limbitu told the Nation.
He said that police were forced t use teargas to disperse the group that had allegedly blocked the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
Mr Limbitu told the Nation that Gikaria will be charged with assault and causing public disturbance.
According to the Nation, the MP is being held at undisclosed location in Nakuru.
The Nation reports that it is not the first time the lawmaker being arrested. In January, he was arrested and charged in court over alleged land fraud.
Gikaria is among vocal and veteran politicians in Nakuru County.
