A 35-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to human trafficking will be taken for treatment before she could be sentenced following a court order.

Ann Wangui Maina, who appeared before principal magistrate Joe Omido was accused of trafficking her two-weeks old child.

“The accused be taken for treatment before the court delivers its verdict," the court said.

According to the charge sheet, Wangui received Sh1, 200 from Dorcas Nanjala.

She is accused of committing the offense on September 11 at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.

According to the prosecution, Wangui was selling the baby to Nanjala whom she had also been admitted with at the hospital. Nanjala's baby had died after delivery.

The accused had instructed Nanjala to arrive at the hospital gate on Monday at exactly 11.00am to take the baby.

However, Nanjala reported the matter to Nakuru Central Police station.

The court directed she be remanded at the Nakuru GK prison.

The case was slated for mention on September 18.
