Dagoretti North lawmaker Simba Arati has admitted that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is indeed out to wrestle the ruling Jubilee Party ahead of the 2022 elections.
This comes amid cries from the Deputy President William Ruto faction of Jubilee that ODM leader Raila Odinga is using his closeness to President Uhuru Kenyatta to destroy the party.
Speaking on Wednesday, Arati who is a close ally of Raila said that the plot is actually succeeding, and ODM has managed to woo a good number of Jubilee politicians to its side.
Citing the weekly national tours between opposition politicians and the Kieleweke faction of Jubilee, he noted that the party has so far attracted two thirds of Jubilee to its side.
"ODM inaimarika na tunaungana na wenzetu wa kutoka Jubilee. Hadi sasa, tumepata two thirds ya viongozi kutoka Jubilee na tunenendelea (we already have the support of two thirds of Jubilee politicians, our party is growing)," he said.
He was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi on Wednesday evening.
He said that the party had already overpowered Ruto who seems to be enjoying the backing of the remaining faction dubbed 'Tangatanga' group.
Arati claimed that Ruto is growing weaker by the day and enjoys the backing of not more than a quarter of Jubilee leaders as of now.
"Ruto amebaki na quarter tu (Ruto has only remained with a quarter)," he added.
However, the validity of Arati's claims cannot be established, judging by the large delegations of leaders that are normally seen accompanying the DP in his functions.
